Safety Committee: This group, which represents each location, continues to take the steps necessary to provide a safe working environment for employees and customers as well. We do have a link on the web site that shows the importance of looking both ways when approaching a country RR crossing with a grain semi courtesy of the UP railroad. We have many growers that ask every year what crop removal or maintenance level applications of fertilizers are.  Below is a quick chart as to what a grower needs to look at when deciding on how much plant food needs to be applied.  Farm Service Company bases fertilizer recommendations on Iowa State University’s recommendations.  Remember soil testing is the key to maintaining soil fertility levels.

Fall Herbicides

Fall is a great time to get the jump on weeds for spring.  With the weeds in our area either becoming resistant or just getting tougher to kill, applying fall herbicides has been a great tool in crop protection.

Here are a few options Farm Service Company has been using for fall applications.

New Anhydrous Ammonia Plants

We have completed our anhydrous plant upgrades at Treynor and Silver City and we are still in the process of completion at Randolph.  Growers in these areas will notice faster loading times and a safer plant to operate.

The Neola anhydrous rail off-load facility will be ready for spring.  We are currently waiting for the engineered drawings to be completed for the building of the “rail tower”.  This tower must meet the railroads specifications before being built.  This system will be able to serve all of Farm Service Company’s locations, as we will be able to unload rail cars of anhydrous ammonia and fill transport trucks for shipments to all of our facilities.

Energy News November 2010

What a beautiful fall we have had this year; I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy being out before we are chased inside by old man winter. We will be starting our first round of winter propane deliveries in two more weeks. If you have any special instructions, such as, must back in drive only because lack of room to turn around, please feel free to call and let us know. Many of our customer tanks were filled this summer in June, by the time we complete that first delivery schedule in December some of those tanks will be nearing empty, please check the percent gauge on the tank and let us know if it is under 25%. Starting January we should have our new dispatching program based on degree-days and estimated usage up and running. We are excited about implementing this new technology and is one of the many investments we have made to help us in providing uninterrupted comfort for all our customers.
